Getting around london

Easy ways to travel across the city during your stay

London’s public transport system is extensive, reliable and one of the easiest ways to explore the city. With a combination of underground trains, buses, overground services and river transport, getting around is straightforward for visitors.

The London Underground

The Underground, often called the Tube, is the fastest way to travel across the city. It connects all major attractions and neighbourhoods and runs frequently throughout the day. Using a contactless bank card or Oyster card is the simplest way to pay for journeys.

Buses and trains

London’s red buses are an iconic sight and a great way to see the city as you travel. Overground trains and local rail services also connect areas that are not served by the Tube. All forms of public transport accept contactless payment.

Walking, cycling and taxis

Many of London’s attractions are within walking distance of each other, particularly in central areas. Cycling is another popular option, with bike hire schemes available throughout the city. Licensed black taxis and ride-hailing services provide a convenient alternative, especially late at night.
