12 Day – England, Scotland and Wales

Beginning your 12 day tour in London take some free time to walk along the Thames to the iconic London Tower before heading to Stratford, Shakespeare’s birthplace.

Visit York and its medieval Cathedral then travel to Edinburgh and see the Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh castle and Military Tattoo.

Travel past Stirling, Trossachs and along Loch Lomond for an orientation tour of Glasgow city then past Gretna Green to the beautiful Lake District to learn of the life of William Wordsworth and visit his grave.

Explore Cardiff and cross the Severn Bridge back to England to the Georgian city of Bath. See the ancient Roman Baths with its natural hot water springs and marvel at the cities fine architecture.

Visit the Cornish countryside, Dartmoor and the prehistoric site of Stonehenge before returning to London.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Flight to London

Board your overnight flight to Europe (Please ask about our great deals).

Day 2 - Welcome to London

After checking into your hotel, the afternoon is free to enjoy a city that is famous for its pomp and pageantry.

Perhaps relax with a walk along the Serpentine in Hyde Park or window shop in the elegant boutiques of Knightsbridge? Alternatively, you may want to stroll along the Thames to the iconic Tower Bridge and Tower of London.

Day 3 - London, Stratford-Upon-Avon and Medieval York

At 07:30, meet your Travel Director at The Grosvenor Hotel in London to begin your journey north to Stratford-upon-Avon with its wealth of black and white timber-framed buildings. Discover how William Shakespeare and his incredible works continue to shape society today when you visit his birthplace, full of interesting memorabilia and artefacts relating to his life.

Continue to historic York to stroll the narrow lanes of the Tudor Shambles and view York Minster, England’s largest medieval cathedral.

Later, join your Travel Director for a warm and friendly Welcome Dinner with the opportunity to mingle other over a pleasant evening.

Day 4 - Hadrian's Wall to Edinburgh

See a part of Hadrian’s Wall, once spanning 80 miles from coast to coast, marking the northern frontier of the mighty Roman Empire. Continue past Jedburgh Abbey en route to the Scottish capital, Edinburgh for your two-night stay in this stunning city.

Day 5 - Edinburgh Sightseeing

In the morning, see the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of Her Majesty, the Queen, at the end of the Royal Mile. Continue past the Sir Walter Scott Monument to the 18th century New Town with its neoclassical Adam facades. Join a Local Expert at Edinburgh Castle, home of the Honours of Scotland, to view the Stone of Destiny and Mons Meg. The afternoon is at leisure.

In the evening, select departures will attend the spectacular Military Tattoo – a colourful mix of pipes and drums, dance and display, set against the floodlit backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Day 6 - Loch Lomond to Glasgow

Drive via historic Bannockburn and Stirling and enjoy the scenery of the Trossachs. Continue along the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond, before arriving in Glasgow for an orientation of the city with your Travel Director. See the grand public buildings, including George Square and St. Mungo’s Cathedral.

Day 7 - Lake District

Travel via Gretna Green to the English Lake District, with scenery so beautiful it inspired a host of writers. Learn about the life of William Wordsworth and visit his grave in the picturesque, stone-built village of Grasmere.

Day 8 - The Welsh Marchies and Cardiff

Stop in ancient Ludlow, one of England’s most attractive towns, dominated by its castle, rich in tragic royal history. Why not spend time exploring the traditional open-air market, admiring the local crafts and perhaps sampling the produce?

Afterwards, cross into southern Wales and head for the capital city of Cardiff for an orientation of the port city, upon the River Taff. See Cardiff Castle and the impressive Principality Stadium.

Day 9 - Georgian Bath, Glastonbury and Cornwall

Cross the Severn Bridge back into England and drive to the Georgian City of Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built amphitheatre-style on the surrounding hills and above Britain’s only thermal, mineral springs, its curative waters have been famous since Roman times. See the 15th century Abbey Church with angels climbing Jacob’s Ladder.

Visit the Roman Baths to see the incredibly well-preserved remains of one of the greatest spas of the ancient world, still flowing with the natural hot water from the springs below.

Continue on to Glastonbury, steeped in legend and reputed to be the final resting place of King Arthur and the Holy Grail. Then head to your fabulous resort in the Cornish countryside.

Day 10 - The Cornish Coast Expereince

In the morning, visit a quaint Cornish fishing village and continue to Plymouth on the Cornish Coast. Numerous famous voyagers have set off from this ancient port and you will see the Barbican, Citadel, Plymouth Hoe and the Mayflower Steps, from where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America. Return via the hilly countryside of Dartmoor, home to wild ponies.

For your Celebration Dinner, join your Travel Director and newfound friends for a Farm-to-Table dining experience on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.

Day 11 - Ancient Stonehenge and London

Travel across Salisbury Plain to visit the pre-historic and mysterious Stonehenge, where the strange and awe-inspiring monoliths are reputed to be up to 5,000 years old.

Your journey concludes upon arrival at The Grosvenor Hotel in London.

Cardiff Castle Tour

Take an ‘insider’ look at this unique Castle started by the Romans 2,000 years ago where we have our own private tour. The refurbishments done in the 1800s have been described as outrageous to opulent, bogus to brilliant and some even say the architect, William Burgess, smoked his opium pipe too much! His influences include Arab and Islamic art, Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tales and even Aesop’s fables. Lake Windermere Cruise and Steam Train Ride

There is no better way to appreciate the scenic beauty of the English Lake District than a relaxing cruise and steam train ride. First take to the limpid waters of Lake Windermere for a spectacular voyage, offering magnificent views of rugged mountains, secluded bays and wooded islands. At the southern end of the lake, your cruise connects with a steam locomotive for a nostalgic ride along the banks of the beautiful River Leven to Haverthwaite Station.

We enjoy a visit of Doune Castle, overlooking the beautiful village of Doune. Famous for its association with Monty Python and now used as a film location for Game of Thrones, Doune is also the main Castle in the hit show, Outlander.

Plymouth Harbour Cruise

Join us for a pleasant cruise around the harbour of this most famous seaport. Your skipper provides all the informative commentary as you enjoy panoramic vistas of Plymouth Hoe, site of Drake’s legendary game of bowls. View the Mayflower steps, where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for America, and ships weighed anchor for Australia, New Zealand and Newfoundland. Continue into the Royal Navy Dockyard for a chance to see some of the more modern vessels of the Royal Navy



FAQ’s

What meals are included?

Breakfast is included on all overnight tours.  Lunches are not included, unless otherwise stated.  Evening meals are included when stated on the tour itinerary.  On tours of seven days or more, generally fifty percent of dinners are included.  Please check the itinerary page for exact details.

Where does the trip depart from?

Each UK trip will have a dedicated pick up point in central London.  Shorter duration trips will normally depart from Victoria Coach Station, with longer duration trips leaving from the London Reception Centre, near to Waterloo train station.  Departure points will be confirmed before booking a tour.

Can I get picked up from my hotel?

Pick up from hotels is not possible.  You will need to make your own way to the departure point.  However some tours do have a designated hotel departure, which you can stay in prior to the trip.  Please ask at time of booking for departure points and we can direct you to local hotels.

Are entrance fees included?

Entrance fees are included where specified on the itinerary.

Can I pay in dollars?

All tours are quoted and charged in pounds sterling, but you can pay using your local card and currency.  We will debit the card in pounds sterling and your bank will use their exchange rate at that time to deduct the amount in your local currency.

What time does the trip leave and return?

Departure times will vary depending on the itinerary.  European tours departing from London will usually leave between 05.00am and 07.00am.  Multi day UK tours will leave between 06.00am and 07:30am.  Day trips will depart between 07.00am and 09.00am.  European and worldwide tours that start in an overseas city will have a welcome reception on day one of the tour which is usually around 18.00pm.

Return times vary depending on the itinerary.  All the full day coach tours should be finished by no later than 19.00pm, traffic permitting.  The train tours return between 20.00pm and 22.00pm.  Longer duration trips will return between 16.00pm and 19.00pm.  All times will be confirmed at time of booking.

Is this a definite/guaranteed departure?

A definite departure is guaranteed to operate for that given departure date.  A trip that is not yet designated a definite departure is not yet guaranteed to operate based on current booking numbers.  If a trip and departure date you are interested in is not yet definite, do not let this discourage you from booking.  The more paid passengers received, the odds of the trip operating increase.  In the slim case that the operator withdraw a trip you are booked on due to a lack of numbers, you are entitled to a full refund of any funds already paid towards the tour, or if flexible with your time, we can move you onto another departure.

Who travels on these tours, who else is booked?

Whilst we can not confirm exactly who else is booked on a tour, we can guarantee you will be travelling with fellow liked minded travelers who share a passion for travel, fun, adventure and discovery.  All tours will be run by English speaking guides and age ranges will vary.  The beauty of taking a guided holiday is you’ll have the opportunity to meet and travel with people from all over the globe.

Are transfers included from the airport?

In general, if you are joining or departing your guided holiday on the first or last day, return transfers between the airport and hotel are included (excludes itineraries starting and/or ending in London).  You’ll find specific information on the itinerary’s page.

What optional excursions can I do and can I book them now?

Optional experiences are available on some tours.  These are activities that are not automatically included, but offered during your trip to enhance your travel experience.  These are all bookable whilst on the tour via your tour guide/travel director.  These are payable by cash or card.
