13 Day – Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy

Explore the imperial riches of Vienna and journey into the story-book landscapes of Switzerland aboard the Glacier Express.

Visit the Hofbräuhaus, the English Garden, St. Peter’s Church, the Palace of the Dukes of Wittelsbach, and the famous Marienplatz in Munich then travel over the Austrian border to Salzburg where you can see the house where Mozart was born.

Travel through Wachau Valley to Vienna and enjoy a tour of Schönbrunn Palace where Mozart performed as a child and admire its pretty crystal chandeliers, frescoed ceilings and beutiful gardens.

In Vienna you can also see the State Opera House, the Hofburg Palace, St. Charles’ Church and Parliament.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 - Your Journey Begins

Board your overnight flight to Europe (Please ask about our great deals).

Day 2 - Welcome to Fun-Loving-Munich

Transfers to your hotel leave Munich airport at 10:00 and 13:00. Join your Travel Director at 15:00 for an orientation tour of the city.

See the Feldherrnhalle in the Odeonsplatz, the Palace of the Dukes of Wittelsbach, the English Garden, the Hofbräuhaus, St. Peter’s Church and the famous Marienplatz.

Join your fellow guests for a drink and enjoy a pleasant welcome dinner.

Day 3 - Jewels of the Bavarian Alps

Embark on an exciting visit to Neuschwanstein Castle, bristling with turrets and pinnacles and built for the wildly eccentric King Ludwig II as a retreat. See the exuberantly-decorated apartments including the Throne Room and Lohengrin Grotto.

On return to Munich, the rest of the day is free for you to explore Bavaria’s capital city. Perhaps visit one of its many art galleries and museums, or relax and enjoy a coffee in the delightful Marienplatz?

Day 4 - Oberammergau

(Relaxed Start) Continue on to Oberammergau, home of the famous Passion Play since 1634.

With your travel director, see the immense theatre and colourful chalets before checking into your hotel for the night.

Day 5 - Salzburg, The City of Mozart

A short drive over the Austrian border leads to Salzburg, ‘alive with the sound of music.’ Join your Local Expert who will show you the formal gardens of Mirabell Palace, Residenzplatz, the city’s imposing fortress, the immense cathedral in the Old Town and Mozart’s birthplace on the lively Getreidegasse.

With the afternoon at your leisure, perhaps take an optional experience to Hilter’s notorious Eagle’s Nest?

Later, join your travel companions at a local restaurant for an exquisite Farm-to-Table meal, served with wine.

Day 6 - Wachau Valley and Vienna

In Mondsee marvel at the church featured in ‘The Sound of Music’ before continuing on through Melk to the beautiful Wachau Valley and onto the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Day 7 - Vienna and the Habsburgs

Join a Local Expert for a private tour of Schönbrunn Palace, Austria’s famous imperial summer residence. Marvel at its frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, mirrors and gilded ornaments, before spending some time in the perfectly-manicured gardens.

Then see the city’s many highlights, including St. Charles’ Church, the Hofburg Palace, Parliament and State Opera House.

Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure for further exploration.

Day 8 - Sleepy Austrian Byways to Villach

Take a delightful drive through undiscovered Austria. Climb the dramatic Semmering Pass and stop in Kindberg with its colourful maypole.

Continue south to the border to arrive in Villach, a town rich in contrasts as tradition blends with trendiness, historically a gateway between the Alps and southern Austria, with a touch of la dolce vita influenced by neighbouring Italy.

Day 9 - The Dolomites to Innsbruck

Journey to the charming Alpine city of Innsbruck, set in a valley of snow-capped mountain peaks.

Your travel director provides an orientation of the city to see its 14th century houses of the Old Town, the impressive Imperial Palace and the delightful Golden Roof.

You’re invited to choose among a selection of local restaurants, from classic Austrian to international cuisine, for your Dine-Around Evening.

Day 10 - The Engadine Valley and Chic St. Moritz

(Relaxed Start) Take in the stunning views of the beautiful Engadine Valley, as you enter Switzerland headed for the chic Alpine resort of St. Moritz.

Enjoy St. Moritz’s marvellous scenery, fresh air and perhaps visit its many luxury boutiques. You may even choose to step aboard the Bernina Express to experience one of Europe’s most outstanding train journeys.

Day 11 - The Glacier Express to Lucerne

Embark on an iconic train journey aboard the Glacier Express, as you take in vistas of ice-capped mountains, stone-built villages and lush meadows. Ascend through the spiral tunnels of the Albula Pass and cross the Landwasser Viaduct before heading down through the Oberalp Valley to rejoin the coach at Andermatt.

Continue north to lovely Lucerne, one of Europe’s most popular cities set on the banks of Lake Lucerne.

Join your Travel Director to see the sorrowful sculpture of the dying lion, cut out of a limestone cliff to commemorate the Swiss Guards who died at the Battle of the Tuileries.

Day 12 - Dinner at the 'Roof of Europe' in Stanserhorn

Enjoy the morning at your leisure to explore the city’s 14th century covered wooden bridges, painted gables, old walls and watch towers of the medieval fortifications. Stroll across the Chapel Bridge to the Jesuit Church, or use your free time to shop.

Later, head to the town of Stans where you’ll embark on a scenic journey by funicular railway and cable car, to the summit of the stunning Stanserhorn. On a clear day there are views as far as Alsace in France and the Black Forest in Germany. Here amid true Alpine majesty, your journey literally peaks with an unforgettable Celebration Dinner, hosted in Dreherestaurant Rondorama, located atop the mountain.

Enjoy a glass of sparkling and admire the stunning 360 degree views as Dreherestaurant Rondorama slowly rotates throughout the evening, ensuring you don’t miss a thing. Savour delectable local flavours like smoked trout, Swiss Alpine Macaroni or Sommerfrische, ice-cream served with fresh berries and a muffin.

Day 13 - Leaving Zürich

Bid farewell to your travel companions and transfer to Zürich airport, arriving at 08:00.

Tyrolean Evening

Enjoy a lively evening of traditional entertainment, featuring dancers in national costume, yodelling and entertainment typical of the life, crafts and traditions of the Tyrolean people. Two drinks are included. (This evening may not be available on every departure)

Carriages and Countryside

In a typical rural community, meet local farmers for a delightful horse-drawn ride. Clip-clop your way through bright green pasture, where the angular spire of a traditional white church shoots skyward and rickety old wooden storehouses still dot the landscape. Call in at a local farm where a wonderful spread of homemade drinks and snacks is served.

Swiss Evening

There’s nothing better than convening with friends around a pot of bubbling fondue with a glass of chilled white wine and having a good yodel! Join us for a tasty Swiss meal in a typical restaurant. While you dine, enjoy a lively folklore show of flag throwing, yodelling, Alpenhorn blowing and other great Swiss entertainment.

Lake Lucerne Cruise

A chance to take in the wonderful mountain scenery from a different perspective. Enjoy a leisurely lake cruise, for fine views of the town and it’s surroundings. The serene beauty of Lake Lucerne on a summer’s day is a joy to behold, made even more enjoyable by the encompassing snow-capped mountains, green pastures and dense forests.

Munich Dachau memorial

After Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, the first concentration camp for political prisoners was opened outside the town of Dachau and it became a blueprint for others to follow. Now maintained as a memorial, spend some reflective moments amid the remains of the camp prisons, reconstructed barracks, kitchens, workshops and baths which serves as the museum. A chilling and emotional reminder of the horrors of war.

Bavarian Dinner

Tonight we’ll soak in the lively atmosphere of a popular traditional restaurant. We’ll enjoy traditional Bavarian hospitality and sample delicious regional specialities and local beer.

Eagles Nest and the Bavarian Alps

Drive over the German border, past picturesque farmhouses and villages to Obersalzberg. Nearly 75 years ago, this small mountain paradise was the summer playground for top Nazi brass. Here we will transfer to special coaches for the scenic drive up the mountain to Hitler’s notorious “Eagle’s Nest”. Used as a restaurant since the 50’s, there are splendid views through the arches up to the ‘Hohen Goll’ and across the snow capped peaks.

Bernina-Express Excursion

Enjoy one of the most exciting train rides in Switzerland as you cross the Bernina Pass to the Alp Grum. Spectacular views of the Alpine peaks, glaciers, waterfalls, green valleys and mountain villages. We then descend to Poschiavo to re-board our touring coach.

Gala Viennese Concert

Enjoy a wonderful concert of Viennese Classical music performed by highly acclaimed soloists and dancers. During this special evening, enjoy a glass of champagne along with some of the most famous works by Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Dinner in a Country Mansion

Cross the Danube, passing the famous Prater Park en route to one of Austria’s most famous restaurants. Former patrons include Napoleon, the Emperor Franz Joseph, Liz Taylor and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Once through the door of this historic country mansion you’re transported to a different world! Old memorabilia, autographed photos and other paraphernalia cover the ceilings, walls and even the rest rooms. Choose from traditional Austrian fare, enjoy unlimited drinks and be serenaded by musicians at your table. A fun-filled experience never to be forgotten!

Imperial Vienna

A visit to see the fabulous Imperial Treasury of the Austrian and Holy Roman Empire or the Crypts and Vaults of the Imperial Family or the world famous Opera House (when accessible).

Lake Worth Dinner and Casino Experience

A short drive takes us to scenic Velden, the Alpine Lake playground of Austria’s rich and famous. We’ll enjoy a sumptuous dinner at the dazzling Velden Casino. Then, it’s time to tempt ‘lady luck’ in the company of Austria’s high society. Or, if you prefer, simply enjoy the lakeside ambience of sparkling Worthersee.



FAQ’s

What meals are included?

Breakfast is included on all overnight tours.  Lunches are not included, unless otherwise stated.  Evening meals are included when stated on the tour itinerary.  On tours of seven days or more, generally fifty percent of dinners are included.  Please check the itinerary page for exact details.

Where does the trip depart from?

Each UK trip will have a dedicated pick up point in central London.  Shorter duration trips will normally depart from Victoria Coach Station, with longer duration trips leaving from the London Reception Centre, near to Waterloo train station.  Departure points will be confirmed before booking a tour.

Can I get picked up from my hotel?

Pick up from hotels is not possible.  You will need to make your own way to the departure point.  However some tours do have a designated hotel departure, which you can stay in prior to the trip.  Please ask at time of booking for departure points and we can direct you to local hotels.

Are entrance fees included?

Entrance fees are included where specified on the itinerary.

Can I pay in dollars?

All tours are quoted and charged in pounds sterling, but you can pay using your local card and currency.  We will debit the card in pounds sterling and your bank will use their exchange rate at that time to deduct the amount in your local currency.

What time does the trip leave and return?

Departure times will vary depending on the itinerary.  European tours departing from London will usually leave between 05.00am and 07.00am.  Multi day UK tours will leave between 06.00am and 07:30am.  Day trips will depart between 07.00am and 09.00am.  European and worldwide tours that start in an overseas city will have a welcome reception on day one of the tour which is usually around 18.00pm.

Return times vary depending on the itinerary.  All the full day coach tours should be finished by no later than 19.00pm, traffic permitting.  The train tours return between 20.00pm and 22.00pm.  Longer duration trips will return between 16.00pm and 19.00pm.  All times will be confirmed at time of booking.

Is this a definite/guaranteed departure?

A definite departure is guaranteed to operate for that given departure date.  A trip that is not yet designated a definite departure is not yet guaranteed to operate based on current booking numbers.  If a trip and departure date you are interested in is not yet definite, do not let this discourage you from booking.  The more paid passengers received, the odds of the trip operating increase.  In the slim case that the operator withdraw a trip you are booked on due to a lack of numbers, you are entitled to a full refund of any funds already paid towards the tour, or if flexible with your time, we can move you onto another departure.

Who travels on these tours, who else is booked?

Whilst we can not confirm exactly who else is booked on a tour, we can guarantee you will be travelling with fellow liked minded travelers who share a passion for travel, fun, adventure and discovery.  All tours will be run by English speaking guides and age ranges will vary.  The beauty of taking a guided holiday is you’ll have the opportunity to meet and travel with people from all over the globe.

Are transfers included from the airport?

In general, if you are joining or departing your guided holiday on the first or last day, return transfers between the airport and hotel are included (excludes itineraries starting and/or ending in London).  You’ll find specific information on the itinerary’s page.

What optional excursions can I do and can I book them now?

Optional experiences are available on some tours.  These are activities that are not automatically included, but offered during your trip to enhance your travel experience.  These are all bookable whilst on the tour via your tour guide/travel director.  These are payable by cash or card.
