» Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Gardens - Late Departure Coach Tour
Highlights: * Entry to Windsor castle & a tour of the State Apartments & St. George's Chapel * Entry to Hampton Court Gardens * See J F Kennedy memorial
Windsor Castle - Founded by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle has been changed and added to over the last 900 years. The State Apartments* have now been rebuilt after the recent fire damage. Here we see an excellent example of gothic perpendicular architecture complimented by the fine vaulted ceiling of the Chapel of St. George**. It is here that we see the tombs of King Henry VIII and Charles I.
Runnymede and Hampton Court - En route to Hampton Court we drive past Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215. We see the John F. Kennedy Memorial which stands on American soil given to the USA by Queen Elizabeth II in 1964. Finally, we visit the 17th Century Hampton Court Gardens famous for their fine vine planted in 1768 (probably the oldest in the world) and its maze (the oldest hedge planted maze in Britain, dating from 1690).
* On rare occasions the State Apartments may be closed - we will visit the State Apartmebts at Hampton Court instead
**On Sundays St George's Chapel is closed due to services
During winter (1st November - 31st March), this tour will not visit Hampton Court Gardens and we will instaed have afternoon tea in Windsor
