5 Day Tour of the Scottish Highlands (Tour 155)

(This Tour departs form Edinburgh City Centre)

Highlights: *Isle of Mull* *Iona* *Kilchurn Castle* *Ullapool* *Skye* * Glasgow* *Loch Ness*

For those with more time our 5 day tour includes some of the best Scotland has to offer - the magical history and tranquility of the Islands of Mull and Iona and the remote wilderness of the North West Highlands around Ullapool and Inverpolly.

The 1st day takes you westwards to Glasgow, then north along the full length of Loch Lomond, including a stop in the 18th century conservation village of Luss. You will travel through the impressive mountains of the West Highlands, passing the romantic ruin of Kilchurn Castle at the head of Loch Awe, before arriving in Oban. Here we catch the ferry to the Isle of Mull, staying in the beautiful harbour town of Tobermory for 2 nights.

The 2nd day is an island adventure exploring the dramatic coastlines and wild beauty of Mull before taking the small ferry to the peace and tranquility of Iona - birthplace of Celtic Christianity and traditional burial ground of Scottish Kings. Here you can visit the historic abbey with its carved Celtic crosses or explore therocky headlands and sandy coves of this island gem.Scotland pic

Scotland PicDay 3 takes you north over the Sound of Mull to Loch Linnhe and Fort William. From here we travel west through the dramatic mountain scenery of the 5 Sisters of Kintail to Eilean Donan Castle (set of "Highlander"). We then continue north through the splendour of Loch Carron and Wester Ross to the fishing town of Ullapool for 2 nights.

Day 4 takes you "off the beaten track" to explore the magnificent wild and remote setting of the Inverpolly Nature Reserve. Here you will find some of Scotland's most distinctive mountains (Suilven, Stac Pollaidh and Canisp), the wild umspoilt white sandy beaches around Achiltibuie and the traditional crofting community of Assynt.

The last day returns you southwards, but not before enjoying a chance to do some monster spotting on mystical Loch Ness. From its southerly tip at Fort Augustus we then travel on through the wild Grampian Mountains past Loch Laggan to Pitlochry. From here, we sadly say farewell to the Highlands, as we return you to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

N.B. The tour price does not include your 4 nights accommodation, but this gives you the freedom to choose your budget and the type of accommodation you wish to stay in and we will book it for you - Youth Hostel, B&B or Hotel.
