The Sunny South Special - Tour No. 422 |
In the days of steam, the Southern Railway made great play of travelling to the sunny south and particularly the south coast by train. Now Steam Dreams is reviving that tradition by taking The Cathedrals Express to Bournemouth and Weymouth on six occasions during the summer holidays.
This 'Sunny South Special' will replicate the former fast expresses of the 1960's. After leaving London at 9am the train will pick up in the suburbs at Wimbledon and then Woking with stops at Winchester (giving a whole day in that lovely cathedral city), Brockenhurst (for trips to Beaulieu or the Isle of Wight), Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester (famous as Casterbridge of course, in Thomas Hardy's novels) and finally the seaside resort of Weymouth. As with all passenger trains we will drop off and pick up at all stops. With the schedule concentrated in the school holidays, families can enjoy a seven-hour break in Bournemouth and Poole or five hours in Weymouth. These Sunny South Specials will offer something for everyone from the beach for families, historic towns and cities and for the enthusiast a truly authentic day out by steam express. |
